Top 5 Eats at the 2016 Isthmus Food Cart Fest

It was a beautiful day out this last weekend and we had been looking forward to this sold out event for weeks now.  We knew we would be eating for most of the day, so we came prepared with, bottles of iced cold water, lawn chairs, and our appetites.

We came, we saw, we conquered!

Now that we've recovered from a much welcomed, gut-busting Food Cart Fest experience, here are our Top 5 Eats at the Isthmus Food Cart Fest 2016.

5.  Beer Jelly- Home Grown Cart

I don't think you're ready for this jelly! Yup, you read that right.  BEER JELLY!  The folks from Chef K. Clark's Pickles & Preserves wowed us with this amazing new way to... EAT your beer!  We loved how their HOME GROWN food cart looked just like a market fruit stand!

4.  Nitro Cold Brew - Cadence Cold Brew Coffee

Grab a growler of nitro-infused coffee from Cadence Cold Brew Coffee and you're set for the week!  The coffee was incredibly smooth, with a clean taste.  No acidity or bitterness.  They will be available in cans soon, but  you can get them on tap at a few select Madison, WI locations. This was our first food cart stop, and it got us through the day.  Check out their super hip food cart cycle!

3.  Vietnamese Style Brussel Sprouts - Soho Gourmet Cuisines

These Brussel sprouts from Soho Gourmet Cuisines were dabombdotcom folks!  We couldn't get enough of these.  How the heck did we ever go on eating in Madison without discovering these?!?!?! Make sure to follow them on social media to be in the know of where they'll be next.  We certainly will.

2.  Roasted Cauliflower Taco - El Grito Taqueria

They served this to us sans tortilla, but we ate it anyway.  The filling was made with Tahini, schug (a parsley and cilantro sauce), pomegranate molasses and toasted pumpkin seeds.  Check out their menu and daily locations here.

1.  Sweet Plantain & Garlic Empanadas - Caracas Empanadas

We could have easily eaten buckets of these and they would have been able to keep up with the demand.  They were one of the only food carts that didn't run out of food and had a constant stream of folks lining up for their delicious offerings.  They don't have a website yet, but you can check out their Facebook page.

We did our best to stop at EVERY FOOD CART there, and some we went to more than once.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words (and yes, we've used that cliché before), take a look the slideshow of the outdoor smorgasbord that we had the pleasure of feasting on, and all the people that kept us fed and happy.

The next Food Cart Fest can't come soon enough. 😆
